Song of the Day...

Hmmmm...just put together a new Pilates mix titled: Pilates Waves and Rock because it combines some great New Wave stuff with rock that will keep the heart pumping and the senses reeling.

I discovered a group called The Babys that have a very cool AOR (Album-oriented rock) sound to them. Music is such a fascinating creature. Many songs come and go but sometimes one grabs you right by the (insert part of anatomy that you choose) and your life will never the same. As an instructor I listen to songs for my own use and for adding energy and passion to my classes.

Song of the Day: Isn't it Time by The Babys

Pilates Waves and Rock will rule the day! Can't wait to debut it to the masses of fitness hungry animals out there.

Song of the Day March 29th, 2009

I am going to add a new feature to my Blog called The Song of the Day. Da da da daaaaaa!!! The Song of the Day will be one that can be used in any capacity for exercising. Sprints. Jogs. Biking. Stretching. Walking. Doing the Hundred in Pilates. Anything!!

Todays song: Permanent Vacation by Aerosmith

I used it in Spinning this morning and last Wednesday and it cooks as a progressive Hill. Starts rather innocently and builds from there. By the end of the Hill the class was sweating buckets and breathing heavy...that equals success! Toning and lengthening the muscles.

Check out the song. Use it for biking, running, walking, strutting or any kind of meander that you engage in.

Exciting classes this evening! Let it sizzle!

Whew! Just returned home from teaching a couple invigorating classes. Every Wednesday evening I teach Spinning at Celebration Fitness which is a health club inside of the hospital. I made a new workout mix tonight and it COOKED! Making mixes is one of the many perks of what Mr. Fitness does. Since I started teaching full-time four years ago I have made hundreds maybe even thousands of mixes for all my diverse classes.

For Spinning the songs must compliment the varied terrain that we are riding on. In my Spinning classes there are no breaks...it is designed to mimic a real outdoor course ie. Hills, flats, intervals, recoveries...but there is NEVER a break! Sure you can pull back your intensity when you need to but the class must flow and connect every second. It is that energy that propels you to great things in class! My theater background allows me to NEVER get in the way of that flow. Let it move. Let it sizzle. Then you will find that glorious zone. The point where all become one: body, mind and spirit.

Class was packed and when we finished they all staggered out into the night...stronger, leaner, healthier, and with a clear mind. Hopefully they all showered (-:

After I jetted to the Artisan Park Clubhouse for my Pilates class. We have the most beautiful room in town and there was a huge turnout tonight. This Pilates stuff really works and it is no surprise that all my Pilates classes are well attended. I just pass on the method with my own dramatic flair and am carried along by the brilliance of the exercises. No side effects. No joint pain. All good. Stretch, strengthen and tone every time.

Lots of classes tomorrow so I must retire for the evening. The work never stops for Mr. Fitness. I will give everything I can to each class so people may realize their potential . We are capable of SO much more then we know. We have barely scratched the surface and I will be there everytime to bring it out of you. This is my mission in life.

Have a nice evening!

Bringing fitness to the people!

Group Fitness brings fitness directly to the clients. It is like mainlining health right into the community. There is no paperwork. There are no committees. Nobody sits around and waits. The workout is in the present moment and the glorious results follow closely behind. While many people are spending a fortune on diets and exercise equipment they will never use us in group fitness are improving each other on all levels. Health is now. It is concentrated and the time always FLIES right by!

I taught several classes today and they were all packed and full of vitality and energy. Only group fitness can bring this kind of energy. It is like a rock concert but instead of getting blitzed and screaming your voice hoarse you are improving your health on every level. If you have an even better instructor the benefits continue and continue...

Enjoy the day!

If you don't it will go away...

Sunday is my only day off during the week (if I am not subbing Spinning) and is an open canvas. It is an adventure waiting to happen. Nothing is set in stone and I let my spirit guide me through the 14 hours I have. Such a gift! Always a gift. I even got 9 hours of sleep last night. Relax the mind and great things will happen. Your true self will begin to emerge from all the dust and cobwebs.

Anyway...your focus determines your reality. So true. I teach people to focus every single day but have a hard time swallowing my own advice. The better focus the more enjoyable your life. The more in the moment we are. We see all the wonderful things around us.

I shall focus on my cereal first. Shredded Wheat with a dash of sugar.

The picture is of the Everest Expedition at the Animal Kingdom at Disney World. Check out that clear, blue "Ferris Buehler" sky. Gorgeous. So many things to do on a day like that. So many.

Hollywood Studios with my parents

Had the pleasure of hanging with my parents for a few hours at Disney's Hollywood Studios today. I have taught a majority of my Pilates classes in the Feature Animation Building about 50 feet from the big, purple hat in the center of the park. It is always cool to hang out on the other side of the wall with the energy of the guests, attractions, parades, food and intense sun.

I am finishing up another eight-week Pilates and Yogalates session this week for Disney. This makes me their go to guy for these classes going on over three years now! Awesome! Love teaching for Disney and working with thousands of their cast members.

Off to bed because I have a HUGE class at Golds in the morning and I plan to work them hard!

Spinning Volcano!

I was back this evening to teaching Spinning after a three week hiatus. The reasons are a few: I was in Montana, I was sick, and last week I saw Motley Crue. One has to cancel all classes in order to see the Crue! Spinning tonight was a barn burner! I made a new music mix and titled it Spinning Volcano because I want us to bike with such great intensity that lava shoots out of the wheels. It has happened. I was hoping for it to happen this evening but alas...no lava. We did have tons of sweat, blood and tears to go around as I made sure to heap lots of hills and sprints on the participants.

Spinning is brutal and not for the faint of heart. I always praise those who attend (and thousands have!) for having the courage and good sense to attend my Spinning classes. Most people are simply intimidated by Spinning but they needn't be. I encourage everyone to bust their butt at their own pace. When you strip all the sweat away it is basically riding a bike...but riding it like a damn madman!! Three cheers for Spinning!!

After teaching Spinning for over four years now I am always challenged by each and every class. The music, the energy, the lights, the intense calorie burning....these are all reasons to celebrate.

So if you want to burn at least 700 calories and tone every part of your body attend a class. You will sleep like a baby and make a HUGE difference in your health.

Good night...

A unique experience every time!

Over the past 4 + years I have literally taught thousands and thousands of group fitness classes. I am proud to say that every one of those classes was unique. I approach each and every class like it is the last one I will ever teach. That way we can all surrender to the moment and leave everything else far away. I spent 10 + years working as a professional singer/actor so I view teaching as performing. For class to be a success it must always be fresh, exciting, effective, fun, invigorating, mind exploding and dramatic. Adding music to the class only enhances the drama and levels of energy. I am proud to say that every class I have been fortunate enough to teach has been a totally unique experience!

Vinyasa Flow Yoga with Mr. Fitness! Raging and glistening!

I LOVE teaching my Power Yoga classes! I teach a variety of yoga styles (relaxation, yoga for children, yoga for seniors, chair yoga etc..) but Vinyasa Flow/Power Yoga gets all my senses raging and soaring to unbelievable heights!. I am still reeling from my Power Yoga class last night at Golds Gym Orlando where the room was packed to the walls, the sweat was flowing, and the muscles were glistening and stretching to absolute perfection! Vinyasa Flow is the key to a successful and invigorating Yoga class. Below is a great article I found online and the source is on the bottom of the page. If you have questions about Vinyasa or want to attend one of my yoga classes please let me know.

~Vinyasa is a term that covers a broad range of yoga classes. The word Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement.” In other words, the teacher will instruct you to move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale. This technique is sometimes also called Vinyasa Flow, or just Flow because of the smooth way that the poses run together and become like a dance.

This style allows for a lot of variety, but will almost certainly include Sun Salutations. If your yoga class schedule lists a Vinyasa class, expect movement, not just stretching. Whether the class is fast or slow, includes chanting, or is very alignment-oriented will depend on the individual teacher. Some very popular yoga styles, such as Ashtanga and Power Yoga, make use of the Vinyasa method, but they will be listed on a class schedule by their individual names.

Vinyasa’s strength is in its diversity. There is no single philosophy, rulebook, or sequence that teachers must follow, so there is a lot of room for individual personalities and quirks to come through. This makes it essential that you find a teacher you enjoy and can relate to. If your first Vinyasa class doesn’t rock your world, keep trying different teachers. If you enjoy having things a little loose and unpredictable and like to move, Vinyasa is probably right for you.~

What makes you get out of bed?

What makes you get out of bed in the morning? What drives you to begin your day? What inspires you and keeps you yearning for more? What is your purpose in this day?

These are some of the questions that we need to ask ourselves everyday to make sure we are on the right path. Will your day be extraordinary, merely passing, or awful? Those first few moments you are awake usually determines how it will go.

Take a few moments each morning when you awake (still in bed) and take your legs side-to-side a few times to loosen up your spine. In the morning your body is relaxed and warm and will respond well to stretching. Bring your knees into your chest and breath deeply in and out to get the lungs energized. Then reach your arms over your head and do a full body stretch to energize your spine. Do this every morning (and evening) and you will put a positive start on your day. The release of your body from the stretches will translate into your mind as well leaving you refreshed and invigorated!

Winter Solitude

I spent my Christmas break with my parents in the wonderful town of West Salem in southwest Wisconsin. West Salem will always hold my heart and the Christmas season there is beyond words...I love it so much. I stumbled across a very simple poem that captures the feeling of being outside in that cold, frigid and gorgeous weather. I spent about half my time there walking, running, leaping, snowshoeing and strutting through the frozen wilderness.

Breathing lets you move out of thought and into feeling. It's a sensual and sensory process. Sip your breath. Take in it's essence-blend of subtle flavors that allows you to fall into that moment.

Surrender into the trance of your breath.

Let the breath sink into your cells.
Dream your breath into your body.

Pilates for Men????? Great article.

Pilates For Men Is Much More Than Losing One's Belly Fat

It Has Been Falsely Identified As A “Woman Only” Exercise But It's Origins Began With Male Soldiers

Pilates for men gives you increased strength, more endurance, agility and power. These benefits are what most men are looking for a workout to provide.

Is Pilates for men different then Pilates for women? Men have different physical structures then women, but require the same benefits of regular exercise. Men have a smaller pelvis, tighter hips and generally tighter hamstrings then women. This lack of range of motion could be why most men at some time in their lives experience some form of back pain.

What about flexibility, balance, and more energy? Do men want stronger bones, less body fat and better orgasms Of course they do, but Pilates has been falsely identified as a “woman only” exercise. People forget that Pilates was created by a man for men. The first practitioners of Pilates were soldiers, boxers, and athletes.

Over the years I’ve had many male clients and recently have been seeing more men in my studio. I’ve noticed that they break down into three categories. Men who are aging, men who are young and fit, and men who have had a significant weight loss. Their reasons for seeking out Pilates for men may be different, but they can all benefit from a Pilates regimen.

The first category, men who are aging, come to me because they are noticing a difference in how their bodies feel and they are unable to perform the same kind of exercise they did when younger. These men will benefit from more stretching to increase mobility; core strengthening for stronger backs and better posture, and exercise that is gentle on their joints. Pilates can provide all these things.

The second category, men who are young and fit, are a tricky bunch because they are already active and strong. Men who bulk up may lack flexibility but more often they are looking to gain functional strength. Perhaps they want to improve their golf game or their muscular endurance.

Maybe they are bored with their routines and want to add some variety. Pilates for men can breathe some life back into their game. The final category, men who have lost a large amount of weight, inevitably want to lose their belly fat. In other words, they lost weight and now want to tone their mid sections. Pilates, with all its attention to building stronger abs, is a perfect addition to their already successful weight loss.

Truth is, men of any age want to lose their belly fat. This is an area where men carry extra weight. Pilates, in combination with regular cardio exercise and a lean diet, can be a dynamic program for getting rid of the dreaded belly fat.

Pilates for men can improve posture, balance, stability, flexibility, coordination, endurance, and functional strength. Good things for all people!

As I prepare to return to sunny central Florida tomorrow (and leave behind the cold of southwest Wisconsin) this song continues to ring in my heart and head:

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy.
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely.
Sunshine almost always make me high

Celebrate!!

I celebrate myself, and sing myself...

My respiration and inspiration, the beating of my heart,
the passing of blood and air through my lungs.
The sniff of green leaves and dry leaves, and of the shore and
dark-color'd sea-rocks, and of hay in the barn,

The sound of the belch'd words of my voice loos'd to the eddies of
the wind,
A few light kisses, a few embraces, a reaching around of arms,
The play of shine and shade on the trees as the supple boughs wag,
The delight alone or in the rush of the streets, or along the fields
and hill-sides,
The feeling of health, the full-noon trill, the song of me rising from bed and meeting the sun.

Stop this day and night with me and you shall possess the origin of
all poems,
You shall possess the good of the earth and sun, (there are millions
of suns left,)
You shall no longer take things at second or third hand, nor look through
the eyes of the dead, nor feed on the spectres in books,
You shall not look through my eyes either, nor take things from me,
You shall listen to all sides and filter them from your self.

Classes getting better and better!

I will be returning to Central Florida this weekend to resume my enormous teaching schedule. So I say bring on the Pilates! Bring on the Yoga! Bring on the Power Yoga! Bring on the Yogalates! Bring on the Spinning! Bring on the intoxicating excitement that only group fitness can bring!

I am adding more locations to my teaching schedule in 2009 and making plans to produce and star in a (or several) health and fitness DVD!!! This has been something that has been on the tip of my tongue for awhile and I am excited to take more steps to make it happen. Stay on the lookout!

I am also participating in several new certifications and workshops in the next few months so that I may offer my clients nothing but the absolute best in fitness and health!

Enough for now...I am heading to my favorite local haunt Barnes and Noble to do some studying, observing, and coffee drinking. Join me if you like!

Practice Pilates and be a forward thinker.

Health and Fitness goals for 2009!

As the new year approaches I am setting my sights on how to deliver the best possible classes and instruction to my many clients.

Here are a few goals (some I already have set but wish to improve them with each passing day):

~Make the classes challenging for people of all fitness levels. Whoever comes through the door will get a class that will stretch, strengthen and tone their entire body and mind.

~Treat every class as if it is the only one I will ever have the privilege of teaching.

~Always be in the glorious moment of the class!

~Remember all of my clients names (which is pretty difficult with well over 10,000 fitness hungry clients!).

~To make the classes not merely a period of time where people come to attain better health but an experience/event that will be unforgettable and keep them coming back for more!

There is so much more I can write on the amazing field of health and fitness and bettering lives but will save it for another time.

Happy New Year!!

Made it home safe and am teaching at the Humane Society this Monday!

Despite the horrible winter storm that blew through the midwest this weekend I still managed to make it home...only 30 minutes late. Great! The first thing that I noticed upon walking out of the airport was that my face and feet instantly froze and fell off. At any rate it is so good to be home for the Holidays!

I will be teaching a relaxation Yoga class this Monday at The Coulee Region Humane Society in Onalaska for all their employees and volunteers. When I was home in October we did the same class and had lots of fun (and relaxation of course!). Class will be at 5:30 pm (right after work) and I am really looking forward to de-stressing this wonderful, hardworking bunch. We are also planning a Pilates class after Christmas too.

Off to take pictures of my dad, who is playing Santa at Pets Mart today!

2008 coming to a glorious end!

The end of the year is fast approaching as we reflect on all the great and exciting things that occured in our lives. This has been another whirlwind year for Mr. Fitness LLC as I have personally instructed over 700 classes in 2008! These include: Pilates Matwork, Power Yoga, Relaxation Yoga, Flow Yoga, Spinning/Indoor Cycling and Personal Training. I have had the pleasure of teaching at health clubs, hospitals, Pilates studios, schools, businesses, resorts, dance academys, Clubhouses, homes, fields, skies, planets...etc etc... you get the idea. The point being that these classes can be held just about anywhere. All you need is a mat and a bottle of water (except for Spinning of course!) and you can create the most phenominal, powerful and effective workout imaginable! You will always feel so much better during and after class then when you walked in the door! Sleeping...forget about it...you will sleep like a baby after all that toning, stretching and strenghening. There are really no side effects to these classes other then getting horribly hooked on attending.

I teach all class sizes. At some places I can pack 40, 50, or 60+ into a room or studio while others are more subtle (1-10). Whatever the class size I will work my heart out for my clients! No 2 classes are ever the same so the mind/body connection will always be fresh. After teaching thousands of classes the past few years I am only getting stronger and more confident in what I do.

Time for lunch! Keep checking back to see what I am up to and how you can be a part of it!

Working with thousands and thousands in 2008!!

Why do I love teaching Group Fitness?

~During the year of 2008 I have had the pleasure of teaching and working with almost 10,000 people in my many, many classes! What a privilege to work and help so many people over the course of the year. This is truly an amazing profession and one that I will continue to grow and expand. The more successful I am the more people I can help. Over the past few years I have worked with thousands and thousands more! If you are hungry to improve every part of your life then I will be there to show you how.

Keep coming to my classes everyone and I will continue to work my hardest for you! Remember: how you treat your body is your choice!

Why I love teaching Group Fitness continued...

~I love watching the improvement from clients after only a couple classes with me. Be it Pilates, Yoga or Spinning...their minds and bodies begin to work together to create such power, grace and control. They know that their lives will only get better and better from now on!

Why I love teaching Group Fitness...

Here are a few reasons why I wake up every morning and am so excited to teach, teach and teach some more (Pilates, Power Yoga Relaxation Yoga, Yogalates and Spinning)!

~I meet new people everyday who are interested in improving their quality of life and those around them.
~When people come into class they are usually stiff, tired, distracted and unfocused. When they leave they are invigorated, released, calm and very focused. They always look better AND feel better.
~Only positive things happen during each and every class. People always feel so much better during and after class then when they came in the room.
~I get to delve into so much great music!
~The energy in the rooms is contagious and intoxicating and it feeds everyone!
~I get to hear my own voice! HAHA!

I will continue this in the next blog. Now that I have started I could list things for hours...and I probably will!
